Ok, Let's Talk About the Future of Destiny Blog #380

We discuss Bungie's blog post about the future of Destiny and their plan to unvault content. I read the post and I gave my honest reactions to each part. We shared feedback from our Discord and answered community questions. I focused on which campaigns, raids, and activities Bungie plans to bring back and which items are stretch goals. I warned that the twelve month timeline could cause players to lose interest if Bungie does not add updated, upgradable rewards. We asked for clear progress bars and regular updates so trust can be rebuilt.

What’s up Guardians, and welcome to the newly branded Guardian Down Roundtable! We’ve spent nearly seven years as the Guardian Down Cast show focusing on Destiny, but now we’re taking a more broad overview of the entire gaming hobby. Every week, my co-host Mr. Kingsleymac and I sit down with two rotating guest hosts to tackle topics of discussion—covering everything from the gaming industry and tech to social media…or whatever our guest co-hosts have on their mind. Our mission is simple: To create a dialogue with topics/news that impact our gaming hobby…all while keeping the focus on our community.

We go live every Thursday at 9 PM Eastern on my ToddtheGatr YouTube and Twitch channels, as well as our Discord Live Stage. Once a month, we invite a new member from our Discord community to pull up a chair and share their own story with us. We are a live video show with an audio version available every Monday morning. We love the live shows but we love interacting with the live chat even more, so jump in, give us your input!

Speaker A

This is where I'll talk about what's on my mind for the week.

Speaker A

I'll usually post one topic of the week, maybe some quick gaming news articles that got my attention and I'll also catch up on my week.

Speaker A

Sometimes I will answer questions from our community or even share a voicemail.

Even though we are a video show, we do offer an audio version available every Monday morning.

Speaker A

You can go to our website guardian downcast.com and choose between the video form or audio form right from our website.

Speaker A

Again, that's Guardian Downcast.

Speaker A

Com.

Speaker A

So this is what we have lined up for this week's show.

Speaker A

You know this episode is really going to be about the recent community announcement that Bungie released this past Thursday.

Speaker A

I mean, I was thinking about it over the week before I recorded tonight and the best way I can do this is just to read through the blog post and just share my opinions at each point in the article and I have some words.

Speaker A

Trust me, this post was packed with information and there's been a lot of talk in our Discord community as well.

Speaker A

So after I go through Bungie's future plans, I will share some feedback from our Discord and also mention some questions that we got from our community.

Speaker A

By the way, if you want to ask us a question, be sure to post them in our podcast Questions channel in our Discord.

Speaker A

You know, I check that channel every day, so don't put it off.

Speaker A

If you have a question for us, you got something on your mind, ask us a question or give us some feedback and we might mention it on a future show.

Speaker A

Before we go, I have one movie review I'll mention and what I've been up to this week oh, and I also have a voicemail from one of our longtime community members.

Speaker A

Okay, let's get into it.

Speaker B

Hi, this is B. Leahy and you're listening to the Guardian Down Roundtable.

Speaker A

Bungie Community Update this is October 29, 2026 and this is from DMG.

Speaker A

This is our Community Manager.

Speaker A

Welcome back to the blog.

Speaker A

It's been a while.

Speaker A

We're trying something new today, even if it feels a bit familiar.

Speaker A

Since our next chapter of Bungie Video and Blog article, we've been thinking about ways to keep the conversation rolling.

Speaker A

Maintaining a transparent heartbeat of updates with you all is pivotal for the success of our studio.

Speaker A

As such, we're spinning up a new Bungie Community Update.

Speaker A

This is a blog to keep in touch as we head into the future.

Speaker A

To be clear, this isn't going to become a weekly series like a twid or a twab.

Speaker A

Rather, this is a general space for us to give updates on our studio.

Speaker A

Sometimes we'll talk about Destiny, other times marathon, and every so often we may just chat about general Bungie news that needs more space than, you know, a social media post.

Speaker A

We want to make sure that whenever we speak with you, there's a human tone and a takeaway, so we'll want to take appropriate amounts of time between entries to get you real, meaningful news.

Speaker A

In other words, a Bungie Community Update is never late, nor is it early.

Speaker A

It arrives precisely when it means to.

Speaker A

We're also exploring ways to get you updates on the Fly marathon side.

Speaker A

We've started a string of dev insights leading into Symbiosis and the March Update.

Speaker A

These take a bit of time to film and produce, so we're also looking into smaller, more casual spaces to have discussions, podcasts, live streams, ask me anythings.

Speaker A

We've done many of these in the past, but all we need to do is rebuild some bones to get them up to speed again.

Speaker A

I could talk on and on about our comms pillars and how we'll keep chatting as we move forward into the next chapter.

Speaker A

But I know what you're all here for.

Speaker A

Video games.

Speaker A

More specifically, Bungie Video Games.

Speaker A

For October, we're moving forward with a mainstay of Bungie, a nice old blog.

Speaker A

Today we have Josh Dean, Head of Product, here to run through some questions and answers about Destiny and Unvaulting, give some context on where the studio is right now, and talk about what's to come.

Speaker A

Many thanks to all have been sending questions our way over the last few weeks.

Speaker A

We hope to cover many through the answers below.

Speaker A

You know before we get into the nitty gritty here, I just wanted to share that over this week it has been, I wouldn't say high drama, but a lot of Destiny content creators have stated that they want that weekly blog.

Speaker A

Everybody looks forward to the twab, right?

Speaker A

It's been years and years in the making and I don't know, I. I was getting tired of the this Week at Bungie or this Week in Destiny or whatever they decided to call it.

Speaker A

I got tired of tuning into these articles and them repeating things that they said weeks before and just want to reiterate and remind everyone of those days when we had those blogs that really didn't need to be posted.

Speaker A

So I'm on the side of, you know what, Bungie, post something when you have something to say because otherwise just don't waste our time.

Speaker A

That's the way I see it.

Speaker A

And I know there's some content creators out there that have want that, you know, want that weekly blog.

Speaker A

And I understand a lot of content creators, especially in the Destiny area, like to create some video, you know, some content on that, even if it's just something they've repeated three and four times over the months period.

Speaker A

So I just want to get that clear that I'm on the side of the fence where Bungie put out a blog.

Speaker A

When there's something to say, I'm going to leave it at that.

Speaker A

Every end is a new beginning.

Speaker A

Welcome to the hot seat, Josh.

Speaker A

To start, let's set the stage.

Speaker A

What are we focusing on today, Josh?

Speaker A

Well, if you can't stand the heat, I figure let's have a conversation about where we've been and where we are on our new journey together.

Speaker A

So we'll cover what wholeness means for Destiny's legacy and how we're working to reimagine Destiny's future.

Speaker A

Most importantly, we need to talk about how we intend to rebuild a relationship with you all, not just simply announce a future for a cheap win.

Speaker A

To do that, I think we have to rewind the clock a bit before Monument of Triumph.

Speaker A

Heading into our end of Service announcement for Destiny 2, what was the experience like heading into Monument of Triumph and watching the community respond the way they did?

Speaker A

Josh, I think I'm not alone in saying the months leading into the end of service announcement for Destiny 2 were as difficult a time as we've ever experienced.

Speaker A

I know personally seeing a world that was a home to players and us about to be put in stasis, shrouded in darkness with an unknown future, knocked me out like many of you if you're reading this Destiny has been my shelter, but that is probably another story for another time.

Speaker A

Heck, there's also probably a future quote TED Talk about the complex journey that led to the moment of Destiny 2's end of service announcement.

Speaker A

But regardless of all the whys, it fails to take the sting out.

Speaker A

It was really Poria Good friends rule who picked me up off that mat and we made the decision as we took on new roles that no matter what, with challenges were left to overcome.

Speaker A

Destiny Marathon and Bungie were going to be different going forward.

Speaker A

Dylan, you probably remember this like it was yesterday.

Speaker A

It started changing the opening of the Monument announcement in comms at the last minute.

Speaker A

Regardless of how impossible, it was necessary for that moment to not be a funeral, it had to be a battle cry.

Speaker A

Basically, light the beacons and hope Rohan would answer.

Speaker A

And you all did.

Speaker A

You all didn't just rage, you showed up.

Speaker A

You shared your stories about your memories and destiny, what the world meant to you, and made sure to petition how disastrous it would be to walk away from this amazing universe.

Speaker A

It inspired everyone.

Speaker A

DMG replies here oh, I remember.

Speaker A

I will never forget seeing how players rallied after that end of service announcement, how passionate they were, and how they're still showing up daily asking about our shared future.

Speaker A

It will live with me forever.

Speaker A

They did not go Gently Restoring Destiny and our first step Speaking of players asking questions, since the unvaulting announcement, we've seen healthy discussions and questions and about the decisions.

Speaker A

Why are we starting with unvaulting?

Speaker A

Josh I just don't see how we can move forward with confidence without first repairing trust and making Destiny 2 quote whole.

Speaker A

Spoiler.

Speaker A

I don't see that wholeness intent just as unvaulted content.

Speaker A

It means restoring Destiny's past, present and future.

Speaker A

But let's start with Unvaulting.

Speaker A

The vaulting of essential Destiny 2 content, even if based on some real technical challenges, was a moment that fragmented our experience and broke faith with our community.

Speaker A

And strategically, as we incubate a new future for Destiny, we need to serve you all along the way with meaningful updates to our universe.

Speaker A

What are we starting with?

Speaker A

In our next chapter of Bungee Comms, we noted campaigns, destinations and raids.

Speaker A

Specifically, what else is on the table?

Speaker A

Josh, our first pass for unvaulting, available to all players, focuses on getting our campaign slate whole again.

Speaker A

We're specifically targeting the activity content of campaigns, strikes and raids from vaulted expansions.

Speaker A

Menagerie holds a special place in our hearts, and we've seen years of community Requests for a return, so it will be part of this pass as well.

Speaker A

Red War Forsaken, Curse of Osiris and Warmind Campaigns Strikes from the Above Releases Raids from the Raid Lairs from the Above Releases Menagerie Activity with Reprise Rewards.

Speaker A

Beyond this first pass, we're also investigating content that we're defining as stretch goals at Unvaulting, Launch or after.

Speaker A

For example, we know aspirational content like Legacy Raids needs a deeper chase, even if we are not able to address it up front.

Speaker A

As we get closer to Unvaulting, we'll be able to provide stronger insight into these areas.

Speaker A

Free roam destinations.

Speaker A

These will be public events, Lost Rectors, Escalation Protocol, etc.

Speaker A

Seasonal activities from Sundial Season 9 to the Coil Season 23 Raid and Raid Lair Weapon Updates PvP Maps Our final section currently does not have a path to update, either for technical and or strategic reasons.

Speaker A

As we're looking to build the future of Destiny, we need to find balance.

Speaker A

While we'd love to bring back some additional activities or refresh things like our new Light Experience, it could come at the cost for what we want to build for you in the future.

Speaker A

Updated New Light Experience Seasonal Story Missions Gambit Map in other words, Kellsgrave Seasonal hubs like the Eliksni Quarter.

Speaker A

Many have been asking how long this will take.

Speaker A

What's the current status?

Speaker A

Many have been asking where we're at in terms of a timeline.

Speaker A

Josh, where are we?

Speaker A

Let's talk about the progress bar.

Speaker A

In June, we secured our initial green light to begin scoping the work, validating we could do it and finding a partner to help us make it real.

Speaker A

In September, we validated our assumptions and then raced to tell you.

Speaker A

All right, now we're in our pre production proof of work stage where we will ensure the process is working and hitting our quality bar as we port the legacy content.

Speaker A

We expect this part of the process to last until roughly January and February.

Speaker A

From that point, we expect full production will be about 12 months to fully complete the porting process.

Speaker A

It's a lot of content.

Speaker A

Okay, before we move on, let's.

Speaker A

Let's go over what we just talked about real quick here.

Speaker A

They first feel that they need to restore the content first before even looking forward to making future content for Destiny.

Speaker A

I should say future content for Destiny 2.

Speaker A

And they mentioned here Red War Forsaken, Curse of Osiris, Warmind Campaign, Strikes from the Above, Raids and Raid Lairs from the above and the Menagerie Activity with Reprise with Rewards.

Speaker A

This is their first pass.

Speaker A

This is what they're saying.

Speaker A

We are definitely going to work on this part.

Speaker A

Now the stuff that is what they call stretch goals, which means it could happen, it might not happen.

Speaker A

This would be the free roam destinations, the public events, lost Rectors, Escalation Protocol, etc.

Speaker A

Seasonal activities from Sundial Season 9 to the Coil Season 23, Raid and Raid Lair weapon updates, which that's what I was really hoping for.

Speaker A

And of course all those PvP maps they took out, I mean I think half the maps in PvP are missing.

Speaker A

And then finally this was the we don't have a path for this, but it's on our radar kind of thing.

Speaker A

This is the updated new light experience.

Speaker A

Seasonal story missions, the one gambit map are missing and the seasonal hubs like the Eliksni quarter.

Speaker A

Now here's my opinion on all this.

Speaker A

I'm gonna make this clear.

Speaker A

Very, very glad and happy that they're bringing back Red War because that is the beginning mission for Destiny 2.

Speaker A

For a new player to experience what Destiny 2 is all about, they really need to go through the Red War campaign.

Speaker A

They need to go on that ship.

Speaker A

They need to be stripped of all their light and start over.

Speaker A

I mean that's, I played that mission so many times on so many alt characters.

Speaker A

Let me tell you.

Speaker A

It was, it was a pivotal process to ease into the Destiny 2 story.

Speaker A

It tied it all together.

Speaker A

Now we don't have that and we basically the new, the new players watch a five minute video synopsis which to me is not good.

Speaker A

It's not good reason.

Speaker A

No players are coming back to play Destiny.

Speaker A

There's no new players coming into this game.

Speaker A

I will say this, I really would like the free roam destinations back.

Speaker A

I like public, I don't like public events.

Speaker A

I like lost sectors.

Speaker A

Escalation protocol, man, I remember, I know a lot of people played that for a lot for many months.

Speaker A

But if they brought Escalation Protocol back and it's just the same weapons and stuff from the Warmine, you know, dlc, how much am I actually going to play that?

Speaker A

I'm just, I'm just being realistic here.

Speaker A

How many times would I play Red War and say, oh, I really didn't like playing that when it was here.

Speaker A

I'm just being honest now.

Speaker A

I love lost sectors.

Speaker A

The lost sectors on, on Mars were fantastic.

Speaker A

They were made very well.

Speaker A

They're the bosses were very challenging usually at the end and, well, challenging.

Speaker A

You know, if it's not a legendary lost sector, then they were, they were pushovers.

Speaker A

But for a new player, it could be very challenging.

Speaker A

I could see that Raid and Raid Lair weapon updates.

Speaker A

I feel this is a must if they're going to bring the Leviathan back and all the raid layers that are associated with it.

Speaker A

I want that inaugural address Pulse rifle.

Speaker A

I want it badly.

Speaker A

But I already have the original one with all the original attachments.

Speaker A

You know, there were no, there were no attachments.

Speaker A

By the way.

Speaker A

You just got the rifle.

Speaker A

It was set attachments back then.

Speaker A

There were no, there were no mods or anything you put on it.

Speaker A

This is when they were doing the sun setting.

Speaker A

So as much as I want that inaugural address, I've already got one.

Speaker A

I've never taken it out of my vault.

Speaker A

It's one of my most favorite weapons of all time.

Speaker A

I won't go down the rabbit hole on that.

Speaker A

But the main thing is unless they update the weapons to the tiered system where you can get the enhanced perks, where you can up, you know, upgrade the weapon by killing things with it.

Speaker A

I mean, that is content right there.

Speaker A

I would say that would be pretty crucial for players who have played the game already.

Speaker A

That would be one thing that would get me to come back and play.

Speaker A

Knowing that I can get the inaugural address, but I can get it with enhanced kill clip, enhance ADS speed, enhance reload speed, all the things that they can add to these weapons.

Speaker A

I kind of feel, even though that's on their stretch goal list, I kind of feel they need to do that.

Speaker A

Because if they bring back, let's just say they bring back the raids.

Speaker A

They bring back the Leviathan raids.

Speaker A

You know, my raid group, we may play it on the weekend a few times, but this is a looter shooter game.

Speaker A

If there's no loot for us to get, what are we doing here?

Speaker A

So I kind of feel that is required.

Speaker A

I know it's part of their stretch goal is the Raid and Raid Lair weapon updates.

Speaker A

I think that would need to go first on their list.

Speaker A

Like right under bringing the Raid and Raid lairs back from the above.

Speaker A

They did mention there were going to be reprise rewards with a menagerie.

Speaker A

And Menagerie was a lot of fun.

Speaker A

I had a lot of fun playing Menagerie.

Speaker A

That is something that is Replay has replayability.

Speaker A

I, I, I think I would have a lot of fun playing it.

Speaker A

It, it would keep me busy for a little while.

Speaker A

Especially if it has repri reprised weapons.

Speaker A

If it has the updated upgradable weapons to Tier 5.

Speaker A

Otherwise, again, this is a looter shooter game.

Speaker A

Why would we want to.

Speaker A

I just don't understand that part.

Speaker A

I understand they're trying to rebuild the trust, give us what we paid for.

Speaker A

Right?

Speaker A

I mean when they sunset a lot of this DLC when, you know, the Traveler took over those planets or the darkness took over those planets.

Speaker A

That's what they were selling us at the time.

Speaker A

I, for the most part, I really don't miss Curse of Osiris.

Speaker A

I don't miss the.

Speaker A

Oh my gosh, those missions were tedious.

Speaker A

I don't know if a lot of you have played was a lot of fetch quest.

Speaker A

You would go into the infinite forest, complete a mission, then come back out, talk to Osiris, go back into the infinite Forest.

Speaker A

You know, if you were.

Speaker A

If some of us who played the game for a long time, if you go back, this DLC almost killed the game.

Speaker A

So I don't understand other than the new player, I don't understand why they would bring this back.

Speaker A

It's.

Speaker A

It's not a lot of content.

Speaker A

For one.

Speaker A

Yes, they had the wheel, the seasonal.

Speaker A

You know that dlc.

Speaker A

They had the wheel in the lighthouse where you could get.

Speaker A

And those weapons were badass.

Speaker A

I love those weapons.

Speaker A

They.

Speaker A

The weapons they had in that Curse of Osiris expansion.

Speaker A

I thought they were beautiful, gorgeous weapons.

Speaker A

But if they're not upgradable, if they're not updated to the Tier 5 system, I just don't understand why they would spend that much time on it.

Speaker A

I just don't understand that part.

Speaker A

The PvP maps, this is kind of iffy.

Speaker A

I love the PvP game and if they brought the PvP maps, the old maps that we don't have access to right now, especially during Iron Banner Week, I would definitely jump in and play those.

Speaker A

That would.

Speaker A

That would create some replayability in the.

Speaker A

For those guardians who still love to play the Crucible, I think that would be as far as the stretch goals they're mentioning here.

Speaker A

The seasonal activities, the sundial, the coil.

Speaker A

Are we.

Speaker A

Do we have amnesia?

Speaker A

Remember those seasonal activities after we played them for a week or two.

Speaker A

We were bored of them.

Speaker A

We were bored of them.

Speaker A

There was.

Speaker A

Remember, if you remember, go back to where we were getting tired of the same cookie cutter seasonal, like, you know, template.

Speaker A

They would do an activity, a seasonal activity.

Speaker A

Let's face it, it was.

Speaker A

They were all very similar.

Speaker A

Only thing that was different is you could get the seasonal weapons from these seasonal activities.

Speaker A

Man, I hated Sundial.

Speaker A

Sundial was so boring.

Speaker A

I mean, I'm sorry, I'm not.

Speaker A

I don't mean to offend you.

Speaker A

Long time players out there that remember having a lot of fun doing sundial and the coil.

Speaker A

I don't.

Speaker A

I think I ran that.

Speaker A

I ran it with some friends.

Speaker A

I, you know, I got some of the weapons.

Speaker A

I remember you had to go back to the queen.

Speaker A

You could get tokens and stuff and buy stuff from her.

Speaker A

I remember that was pretty cool.

Speaker A

That part was nice.

Speaker A

But the coil, I only ran, I don't know, two or three weeks.

Speaker A

I, I, I, if I'm looking at the stretch goals here, free roam destinations, lost sectors, I would like to have back.

Speaker A

Public events will be nice.

Speaker A

If you're free roaming, you know, you gotta have the public events but the seasonal activities, I really hope they just ditch that.

Speaker A

The seasonal activities are here and gone.

Speaker A

Maybe.

Speaker A

Okay, here.

Speaker A

Maybe you could do this, Bungie, have a rotation where you have a different seasonal activity every week.

Speaker A

But to have these seasonal activities on every free roam area, it doesn't get me excited.

Speaker A

I'm sorry, I don't need to be so negative here.

Speaker A

I'm just saying I think everybody forgets how boring those activities were after one or two weeks of playing them.

Speaker A

The only reason we really pushed through to play those activities was to get the new seasonal weapons, which, by the way, we already have.

Speaker A

Now we have these weapons.

Speaker A

So as far as the stretch goals, PvP maps.

Speaker A

Yeah, Bungie, you need to bring all those back just for the PvP crowd, the Crucible crowd.

Speaker A

And if you're going to bring back the raid layers and the raids, you gotta make the, with the weapons updatable.

Speaker A

You have to update the weapons.

Speaker A

You have to put the, you need to put the new perks that we can put on these weapons and stuff.

Speaker A

Otherwise we already have them.

Speaker A

And for the 2% of players who've never played this content before, all right, 10%.

Speaker A

How long are they going to play it before they're bored of it?

Speaker A

I mean, if it's old weapons without any tier, I mean, what are they going to think if they're playing the new Leviathan raid that they never played before?

Speaker A

Because it was sunset and they got their weapons and they, they didn't even have tears on them.

Speaker A

They were just simple weapons.

Speaker A

If you remember from, from Leviathan Raid, you would get like my inaugural address.

Speaker A

You would get the, the weapon.

Speaker A

You would have fixed rolls for that weapon.

Speaker A

Everything was fixed.

Speaker A

Can you imagine what the player who's never played the Leviathan raid all of a sudden gets this weapon.

Speaker A

Even if it's at power, even if it's at 550 power.

Speaker A

It does.

Speaker A

It's not Upgradable.

Speaker A

It doesn't have any.

Speaker A

I'm not going to stick to this point very long.

Speaker A

I just want to reiterate this.

Speaker A

The raid and raid lair weapons need to be updated because that'll give us the veteran Destiny players who want to play Leviathan.

Speaker A

That's one of my favorite raids.

Speaker A

I got the most runs.

Speaker A

30 Something odd runs in that raid.

Speaker A

I've even run the prestige versions of these raids back in the day.

Speaker A

You got to make the weapons upgradeable.

Speaker A

All right.

Speaker A

I'm going to move on.

Speaker A

The stretch goals.

Speaker A

The.

Speaker A

Not.

Speaker A

Not the stretch goals, but the goals that they say are on the.

Speaker A

On their radar, but there's no guarantee they're going to mess with them.

Speaker A

The updated New Light experience.

Speaker A

I'm going to talk about that later.

Speaker A

So let's.

Speaker A

Let's push that out of the equation.

Speaker A

Seasonal story missions.

Speaker A

The Gambit map.

Speaker A

Seasonal hubs.

Speaker A

You know what, the seasons are gone.

Speaker A

This.

Speaker A

All the seasonal content.

Speaker A

Why are we.

Speaker A

Why are we keeping that?

Speaker A

Why are we worried about bringing that in?

Speaker A

Unless it's just easy to do with AI or something.

Speaker A

I would not bring these back.

Speaker A

Because you had to be there for the season.

Speaker A

And.

Speaker A

And once the season's here and gone, we're moving on to the next.

Speaker A

I don't know, I'm just thinking from a 12 year Destiny player here.

Speaker A

It just.

Speaker A

This just doesn't get me excited.

Speaker A

I'm sorry.

Speaker A

And we're talking 12 months for this.

Speaker A

12 Months.

Speaker A

That's going to be November of 2027.

Speaker A

Do you know how.

Speaker A

What's going to be different in a year?

Speaker A

The gaming industry is already changing so rapidly right now.

Speaker A

I don't see any of this viable in a year.

Speaker A

I'm sorry, I don't.

Speaker A

Anyway, I'll give you my final synopsis at the end, but I just wanted to mention this is what they're.

Speaker A

This is the.

Speaker A

The.

Speaker A

The parts of the vaulted content that they want to bring back.

Speaker A

Let's move on.

Speaker A

And again, like I said, I want to point this out.

Speaker A

They got greenlit in June.

Speaker A

That's when they announced it.

Speaker A

They're talking about it now.

Speaker A

The validation.

Speaker A

I don't know what this exactly means.

Speaker A

Pre production is now again.

Speaker A

Okay.

Speaker A

Production won't start until February of 27.

Speaker A

And when it's released sometime 12 months from now, let's just say November of 27.

Speaker A

Man, that's a long way away.

Speaker A

I'm just saying.

Speaker A

Okay, what is next?

Speaker A

What's next?

Speaker A

In the next chapter of the Bungie video, you mentioned that we're not Done with Destiny.

Speaker A

What more is on the horizon?

Speaker A

Josh okay, this is the part of the conversation where I need to start talking about intent even when knowing some things are subject to change in success or failure.

Speaker A

Similar to June when we aligned our initial Green Light with Destiny 2 unvaulting and fully greenlit the projects in September, we've also aligned a new vision and plans for Destiny all up that we are actively working on making a reality.

Speaker A

We are marching forward with a phase plan of Destiny's future that celebrates our legacy and propels us into a new far green country.

Speaker A

No clue what that means.

Speaker A

These are our anchors to look for and what will become future Progress bars when we're successful.

Speaker A

All right, the first one.

Speaker A

Destiny 2 celebration expect a new February Progress Bar we believe we need to have a celebration in Destiny 2 Beyond Monument of Triumph for the community that provides new updates for you to all enjoy.

Speaker A

More details to come.

Speaker A

Now when they say expect a new Progress February Progress Bar, is that this February?

Speaker A

Are we talking next February?

Speaker A

Anyway, I'll keep going.

Speaker A

Destiny Legacy Expect a new February Progress Bar on our epic journey started over a decade ago and the whole experience needs to be served to all of you where you play today.

Speaker A

Expect more information when we come back to y' all early next year.

Speaker A

And then there's redacted to be determined Launch Ventrilo message.

Speaker A

We're back.

Speaker A

Once we get through this incubation validation process, will have earned the right to make the announcements you all deserve to.

Speaker A

And if not exile.

Speaker A

I'll be a good high school football coach somewhere.

Speaker A

DMG always love when we use that.

Speaker A

As for the Progress bars, these differ a bit from roadmaps more general and high level.

Speaker A

But we're still planning to provide updates on the status of each project as information becomes available.

Speaker A

As we continue to build trust with the community in our future, transparency is key and the promise of these progress bars is one we intend to keep.

Speaker A

Okay, so February we'll know more about the Celebration event Destiny Legacy which, let's face it, they're talking about Destiny 1 here, which I've already talked about.

Speaker A

They need to port this over to PC so the PC players can have fun playing it.

Speaker A

Because right now you can only play it on console and at 30 frames and if you've been playing it 120 frames, destiny forever.

Speaker A

I mean years and years and years.

Speaker A

It's really hard.

Speaker A

It's really hard to go back to playing 30 frames.

Speaker A

I guess if I had to, we could do it.

Speaker A

But anyway, they're Talking about Destiny 1 here and then redacted.

Speaker A

I guess this is whatever the future of Destiny is, which they're not really telling us much.

Speaker A

Okay.

Speaker A

Ah, let's keep going.

Speaker A

Let's keep going.

Speaker A

The future and what to expect with our unvaulting initiative serving as a form of incubation for Bungie, how exactly does this process work?

Speaker A

Josh?

Speaker A

I think before we close, it's important to know that this is a true reset moment for Bungie Marathon and Destiny.

Speaker A

We also know time isn't our friend.

Speaker A

We're playing from behind with the cards we have and I'm sure we'll have to make.

Speaker A

Well, I'm sure we'll have to take more punches and make some hard decisions along the way.

Speaker A

Let's talk a bit about the process more and why it's not simply just put all your resources right here, right now going to be overly reductive.

Speaker A

But this is a simple rule.

Speaker A

The wider the innovation, the new frontiers to explore, the smaller a team needs to be early on a project.

Speaker A

You have to spend time in discovery, concepting, research and development, scoping and feasibility analysis before you scale.

Speaker A

Forcing a large team into this kind of process creates chaos and crushes it from the production perspective.

Speaker A

In success, you have a project that has gone through this process and is ready to scale by the time we're able to holistically allocate resources to it.

Speaker A

Now, the opposite is true in well defined or clearly benchmarked spaces.

Speaker A

For example, if we're doing something in Destiny 1 or 2, we can work at speed with different size teams and partnerships because we have clear boundaries on how to accomplish our goals and understand our resource constraints.

Speaker A

The challenge is here that your opportunity cost and overall ceiling of any of a project may not allow you to bring all the resources to bear that you would like.

Speaker A

Tldr, the constraints may be tighter.

Speaker A

Knowing both of the above states are true in our current world is the puzzle we're working through for now.

Speaker A

How we get to our end game a new forever destiny.

Speaker A

Remember that term Forever destiny.

Speaker A

While rebuilding a relationship with a vibrant community along the way.

Speaker A

So knowing we are in early in incubation our future and actively working on projects to bridge us to that new home.

Speaker A

Don't expect us to make a Destiny announcement at the at the game awards this year or to randomly drop a logo that sets the world on fire right away.

Speaker A

How did he know?

Speaker A

I mentioned that already in past episodes.

Speaker A

All right, Josh, I hear you.

Speaker A

We get there when we get there.

Speaker A

See you again soon.

Speaker A

Well, it's pretty clear we have a lot to get done over the next few months.

Speaker A

Any parting thoughts you'd like to share with players before tackling the next challenge of the day?

Speaker A

Josh I think the main thing we should all be on the same page is that we have a steep mountain to climb.

Speaker A

The challenges we face are real to forge a new path for Bungie.

Speaker A

It's never been important for our community to keep talking to us, to keep sharing your passion and critiques, and to build each other up as one community at a high level, though the key things to Remember Today we're on track for unvaulting Destiny 2 content we're planning more for us to celebrate within the Destiny you know today we are aligned and are building a new future for Destiny, targeting February for our next major comms update.

Speaker A

We'll share unvaulting progress along the way.

Speaker A

I'll stop rambling shortly.

Speaker A

I think my last note is something really close to my heart, especially as I exist in both worlds.

Speaker A

The Destiny and Marathon communities need to heal.

Speaker A

We're not going to forget the mistakes of the past, but it's time to learn from them and unify as one Bungee community.

Speaker A

For us.

Speaker A

The majority of our Bungie team is Legacy Destiny and we will tell you all that nothing can help bridge us into the future more than than for Marathon to rapidly evolve and become sustainable as we head into our December and March updates for Marathon.

Speaker A

It's an informative period for all of us here at Bungie that will help determine the shape of our future.

Speaker A

So please encourage each other and know that your support gives our team the energy to finish the fight.

Speaker A

We shall rise in an exciting time for us as we're preparing Marathon Symbiosis for launch in December while exploring the future of Destiny, all starting with other our unvaulting initiative.

Speaker A

As Josh mentioned, progress bar updates will come as they're ready and we're planning our next major comms beat regarding Destiny for February.

Speaker A

As for Marathon, expect our Dex Dev insight to land in early December.

Speaker A

We're actually in the middle of filming more interviews about Symbiosis this week.

Speaker A

It's always a fun time, hopping in builds to see how things are coming together, not to mention playtesting the upcoming experimental PVP mode.

Speaker A

We'll have some fun things to talk about in November, so stay tuned.

Speaker A

As always, thanks for stopping by.

Speaker A

We'll see you again soon.

Speaker A

Cheers.

Speaker A

DMG okay, let's talk.

Speaker A

First things first, they mentioned that they were going to be using a partner.

Speaker A

Now what I'm hoping here is that Sony has greenlit one of their service studios to help Bungee put all of this together.

Speaker A

And they mentioned that early in the article.

Speaker A

The questions I have here, I guess let's get into this first 12 months.

Speaker A

I'm really stuck on that.

Speaker A

12 Months is a long time when they're talking about what's next.

Speaker A

They talk about the celebration activity.

Speaker A

They said they'll have a new February progress bar for this, the Destiny Legacy, and the redacted.

Speaker A

This is the Legacy.

Speaker A

Let's face it, they're talking about Destiny 1 here.

Speaker A

They're gonna have a progress bar or more communication in February about that.

Speaker A

And.

Speaker A

And of course, this celebration, probably something like.

Speaker A

I don't think it's gonna be as big as, like, the 30th anniversary edition DLC they dropped.

Speaker A

It'll probably be something like a tower event, you know, like a dawning event.

Speaker A

I think it'll be something like that.

Speaker A

The team will probably make a new weapon that you can earn, and they'll probably bring space, you know, space grandma back to the tower to celebrate.

Speaker A

She's usually the one that does that stuff.

Speaker A

I'm really.

Speaker A

I'm really perplexed here.

Speaker A

And can I just say what everyone else is thinking right now?

Speaker A

We have talked about AI and gaming.

Speaker A

Just last week, we talked about it with my buddy Deadpool and Merc about how reverse engineering is becoming a thing.

Speaker A

Now with the new agentic artificial intelligence that people are training, people are able to play all kinds of games that originally you're supposed to play on one platform and are playing on PC.

Speaker A

There's been just a lot of chaos lately when it comes to porting games over.

Speaker A

So I think what all of us are asking here is, why is it taking 12 months to port this content over?

Speaker A

This content has already been built.

Speaker A

If they're just going to copy and paste it and they're not going to update the weapons, which they said is a stretch, I could see that taking some time to do.

Speaker A

Why don't they just use some agentic AI that.

Speaker A

I don't know.

Speaker A

5 Or 10 of the employees that are in programming for Bungee all sit in a separate room and start reverse engineering it and porting it over.

Speaker A

I mean, I think it was.

Speaker A

I think it was NVD1 who already had a switch that you could.

Speaker A

He already had ported Destiny 1 onto the Destiny 2NE Destiny 2 engine.

Speaker A

Now, I talked to Kingsley about this the other night at a raid we were raiding Saturday, and he mentioned, hey, it's not that easy, man.

Speaker A

You know, that guy who talked about, you know, the little toggle switch where the planets would switch from Destiny 1 planets to Destiny 2 planets.

Speaker A

That's not a playable game yet.

Speaker A

And he seems to think that it will take longer for.

Speaker A

For that to come into effect.

Speaker A

That it's.

Speaker A

It's.

Speaker A

I guess it's pie in the sky.

Speaker A

It's fluff.

Speaker A

But, man, I mean, let's look at.

Speaker A

Let's look at our creators.

Speaker A

We haven't had a drink yet, right?

Speaker A

Let's look at our creators.

Speaker A

They used a lot of artificial intelligence when they built their game, and they built that game, which I think exceeded, I mean, all expectations.

Speaker A

When they built this, they built it in three years with 54 employees.

Speaker A

Now, I understand they're probably have, you know, they're probably subcontracting work that they have done as well.

Speaker A

I understand that.

Speaker A

But as far as the core team of Embark working on Arc Raiders, I think it was 54.

Speaker A

I want to say it was 54 employees, and they built the whole game from scratch in three years.

Speaker A

We're talking about vaulted content.

Speaker A

We're talking about Curse of Osiris, Forsaken, Red War, and Warmind campaigns.

Speaker A

These are the story missions that came with the dlc, not the seasonal stuff that.

Speaker A

The raids, the raid layers.

Speaker A

Nothing's changed.

Speaker A

They're all the same.

Speaker A

I don't understand how that needs to take 12 months.

Speaker A

I would think they would have that done in three months.

Speaker A

In fact, when they first made this announcement in September that Destiny's coming back, I honestly thought that February of 2027 is when they would have all.

Speaker A

Everything unvaulted.

Speaker A

I know maybe that's naive of me, but I. I don't understand why.

Speaker A

I'm trying to figure out why what Sony is thinking about all this because there's no money.

Speaker A

There's no money in this.

Speaker A

There's no money going to be coming into this other than new players buying Destiny 2.

Speaker A

And then if they bring Destiny 1 back where it's playable on PC, I guess, you know, the PC community will.

Speaker A

Will buy Destiny 1 for, I don't know, 40 bucks maybe or something with all the DLCs and stuff on it.

Speaker A

But other than that, there was no money coming in to Bungee.

Speaker A

And I'm just trying to figure out.

Speaker A

I think one of the content creators this week said these two guys sold their soul to the devil.

Speaker A

I can't remember who said it.

Speaker A

I wish I remembered who it was, because I don't know what they said to Sony about this plan to unvault all this stuff.

Speaker A

But, man, like, I think they said it in the.

Speaker A

In the blog.

Speaker A

It's exile if it doesn't work.

Speaker A

If it doesn't work out.

Speaker A

Now, part of me wants to think that they're just trying to keep their jobs because, let's face it, Marathon, that's not looking too good right now.

Speaker A

Now, let me make this clear.

Speaker A

When the PvE version comes out in December, I'm gonna play it because I already bought the game.

Speaker A

I spent $40 on the game, and I'm just curious.

Speaker A

I want to see what they're going to do with this PvE mode.

Speaker A

Is it going to be a narrative style?

Speaker A

Am I going to be able to upgrade all of the vendors to unlock all the skill trees so I can use them playing PvE, is it going to be very limited as far as what I can get from it?

Speaker A

Am I going to be able to go to the big main ship up top, like the little mini dungeon that they made in the game?

Speaker A

A lot of questions, but the fact that I already owned the game, I already bought it.

Speaker A

I played all the betas and alphas, Even though the PvP version isn't for me.

Speaker A

I am going to play the PvE version because I want to.

Speaker A

They.

Speaker A

They're.

Speaker A

They're trying their best to make this.

Speaker A

I really think this is their plan.

Speaker A

I really think that Bungie, with this PvE mode coming out in December, which I'm sure they're all hands on deck right now to build, that's only a month away.

Speaker A

I think they're hoping that the PvE version of Marathon will carry us through the summer.

Speaker A

I don't know how they're going to do that because they said there's going to be a March update as well.

Speaker A

I don't know if who can make that much content.

Speaker A

It has to be a really repeatable loop.

Speaker A

Replayable content in a PvE mode is really tough to do.

Speaker A

Arc Raiders is finding it out right now.

Speaker A

They have a PvE toggle they tested, and there has to be a repeatable loop.

Speaker A

There has to be a reason for people to come back and play.

Speaker A

That's part of being a live service game.

Speaker A

Now, another thing people may not realize, Destiny is not going to be a live service game.

Speaker A

That part of Destiny is dead.

Speaker A

I don't think they're going to bring back a live service.

Speaker A

Destiny 2 or Destiny 3, I really don't think they're going to bring that back.

Speaker A

I think they're going to go back to the DLC updates that are tacked on to whatever game we are playing, Whether it's Destiny 2 or Destiny Online, like I've talked about several years now, who knows?

Speaker A

And that's tbd, we don't know.

Speaker A

So I think their strategy is we are going to, we're going to crunch, we're going to get the marathon PvE version going and we're hoping that it'll carry our player base.

Speaker A

Maybe Destiny players that like the gunplay but maybe don't want to get ratted, maybe through summer.

Speaker A

Man, that's, that's really, that's really optimistic.

Speaker A

Let's say it carries us through February.

Speaker A

That's only three months, which is what I think is going to happen.

Speaker A

They're going to have some kind of March update which they haven't talked about.

Speaker A

They're coming out with some dev updates, some, you know, some, some video blogs, and I'll, I'll watch them.

Speaker A

I'll watch them.

Speaker A

I, I'm very interested in what Destiny's doing, but I, I don't.

Speaker A

I, I'm just having a hard time understanding why they're putting so much time into this part of the game when so many of us are crying.

Speaker A

When you see all those emotes thrown into the chat on the Sony events, what did they put in the chat?

Speaker A

D3, Destiny 3, not bring back all the vaulted content.

Speaker A

So my biggest fear is that by the time November of next year comes around, people aren't going to care about this unvaulted content.

Speaker A

We've already moved on.

Speaker A

This part of Destiny is dead to us.

Speaker A

And like I said, unless they're up to upgrading and updating the weapon systems for the raids and the raid layers and the menagerie activity, they say they're going to have Reprise rewards.

Speaker A

Then there's no reason for us to come back and play other than a weekend.

Speaker A

Just a little member Berry, you know, remember when, Remember when we did this?

Speaker A

I just don't see it lasting very long.

Speaker A

Now, as far as this partner, I don't.

Speaker A

I'm wondering what Sony, who Sony is going to throw as a partner to help them do all of this.

Speaker A

I don't know.

Speaker A

And yes, they mentioned here, you know, later in the video that, you know, we got to put.

Speaker A

There's a lot of, you know, before we make future content, we have to, we have to.

Speaker A

All these stages of stuff we have to do, otherwise it's chaos.

Speaker A

I understand that part.

Speaker A

That's the part I would understand would take 12 months.

Speaker A

What I'm not understanding is taking 12 months is all the reporting stuff, all of the unvaulting stuff, that's what I'm not understanding.

Speaker A

Was going to take a full 12 months.

Speaker A

And maybe they're just giving themselves a cushion.

Speaker A

Maybe it'll be here in six months.

Speaker A

Maybe it'll be here after the Game Awards in June or July or whenever it comes out.

Speaker A

Maybe that's when it'll come out.

Speaker A

And yes, I understand they're not going to mention something.

Speaker A

Why would they want to mention something at the Game Awards?

Speaker A

Hey, we're unvaulting.

Speaker A

We've unvaulted Destiny.

Speaker A

We've given you back the stuff we took out that you paid for.

Speaker A

Yay.

Speaker A

I mean, again, I don't try, I'm not trying to be negative here, but I just don't understand.

Speaker A

Now, there was also some controversy about this last statement.

Speaker A

It's time to learn from our mistakes.

Speaker A

You know, we need to, we need to all heal as dual communities, Marathon and Destiny.

Speaker A

And nothing can help us bridge us into the future more than Marathon to rapidly evolve and become sustainable.

Speaker A

There again, that's the PVE mode I'm talking about.

Speaker A

Are they going to make it a narrative?

Speaker A

Are they going to make it a Destiny like game?

Speaker A

If they are, okay, I, I'm willing to try and I'm willing to see what they got.

Speaker A

But I'm, I'm just, like I said, I'm really perplexed on their motives here.

Speaker A

I don't, I don't understand why they're putting all this time into content.

Speaker A

That is not going to move the needle.

Speaker A

It's not going to move the needle, Bungie.

Speaker A

I, I, it's like two steps forward and one step back every time Bungie tries to do something.

Speaker A

Anyway, that is the article.

Speaker A

Those are my thoughts as far as Future Destiny 3, 2033.

Speaker A

I, I don't know.

Speaker A

Do you know how much is going to be different in seven years, six years?

Speaker A

I just don't see, I don't see Sony having the patience to do this.

Speaker A

I love the tenacity of Poria and Josh.

Speaker A

I do.

Speaker A

I think right now there's a big ax hanging over all of Bungie and people are feeling it and I think they're realizing that they need to do something with Marathon to keep their jobs.

Speaker A

And I think once they make this PV version, it goes into December, I think with help from some partner.

Speaker A

And maybe they're going to shift a lot of employees who have nothing else to work on for Marathon into the Destiny scene.

Speaker A

Which, by the way, those people originally came from Destiny, most of them from the PvP department.

Speaker A

So I don't know how motivated they're going to be to work go back and work on a game that they've worked on for 12 years.

Speaker A

I don't know.

Speaker A

That's my take.

Speaker A

We'll just have to see what what happens and go from there.

Speaker A

So that's it.

Speaker A

That's all I have to say about it.

Speaker A

Hey Guardians, would you like to send us a question for the show?

Speaker A

There's several easy ways to do it.

Speaker A

First, join our Discord server.

Speaker A

Discord GG GuardianAndOwnroundtable There's a link in our show Notes down below as well.

Speaker A

There's a channel in our Discord labeled Podcast Questions where you can type in your question for the show.

Speaker A

So come hang out with us and we might read it out live.

Speaker A

Second, you can send us an email or what I really like is for you to send us a voicemail with your question@guardiandowcast.com and we might play it live on the podcast.

Speaker A

Think of it as talking with us right on the show.

Speaker A

Hey, we love voicemails, so let's hear them.

Speaker A

Thanks for listening.

Speaker A

And later, Guardian okay, now that I've shared my opinion on the the blog, the article that Destiny put out, we had a couple questions in our Discord concerning the blog.

Speaker A

The first one is from barrelbarley406.

Speaker A

He says now that Bungie has given us an estimated release date on the Unvaulting, are you good with all the content dropping at once or would you prefer the rollout over time?

Speaker A

I believe they said they were going to drop it all at the same time with possible small content updates if they have time.

Speaker A

I hope they have some secret updates planned or some kind of shadow drop along the way.

Speaker A

Yeah, this is kind of goes back to what I was talking about.

Speaker A

Barrel is I honestly, it's not going to make any difference for me whether they drop it all at once and say all right, here it is, here's all the unvaulted content, or they string it out a little by little.

Speaker A

They probably should start with a raid if they're going to do that.

Speaker A

But yeah, the secret updates part there, there has for people to come back and play the game.

Speaker A

We have to have something to grind for as Destiny players.

Speaker A

I think the reason why the, the Destiny numbers are still in pretty good shape these days is because the monument, the, the monument objectives, you know, earning all the legendary coins and stuff.

Speaker A

There's a lot of content they packed in there.

Speaker A

They threw everything but the kitchen sink at us.

Speaker A

As far as Ships and armor and objectives and triumphs to get completed racing, you know, the Sparrow racing.

Speaker A

There's a lot of stuff for us to do.

Speaker A

The great thing about it is these days is that there's no more fomo.

Speaker A

So we can log in once a week, check in, you know, run a few missions.

Speaker A

I mean, it just, just my rating every week, which is all I've had time to do with my fire team, is I've been unlocking triumphs that give me the coins to get more stuff at the monument, Monument of Triumph at the, you know, at the tower.

Speaker A

I think that is a lot of content and I think that's the reason why the numbers are still good.

Speaker A

But what happens when that content runs out?

Speaker A

What happens when everybody's played their time and it's definitely going to take a longer time because there's no fomo.

Speaker A

People don't have to log in if they don't feel like playing.

Speaker A

They don't.

Speaker A

They're not going to play.

Speaker A

They'll just.

Speaker A

They know it's going to be there.

Speaker A

Destiny's not going anywhere now, so they can just log in and get it whenever they feel like playing or shooting some aliens.

Speaker A

Right?

Speaker A

So that being said, that's a long time.

Speaker A

12 Months is a long time to not have anything come out.

Speaker A

And I'm with you, Beryl.

Speaker A

They better have some kind of secret updates, some kind of shadow drop stuff along the way because it's, it's out of sight, out of mind.

Speaker A

That's the way the gaming industry is these days.

Speaker A

If, If a game is not entertaining you and you don't feel like playing it anymore.

Speaker A

The I mentioned in an earlier video the death knell of all video games is apathy.

Speaker A

When nobody cares anymore, nobody speaks up, no one mentions anything anymore.

Speaker A

That's when the game is dead.

Speaker A

And that's my fear here, Beryl, is that by the time the DLC does finally drop, will there be anybody around to play it?

Speaker A

I don't know.

Speaker A

Good question.

Speaker A

Thank you, sir.

Speaker A

We have one from Mr. Ronald Red Lion.

Speaker A

He says it really looks like they're going to bring Destiny one up to the current era.

Speaker A

Now, we don't know yet if it's going to be an exact port of what's essentially a different game, or if it'll be D1 content brought into D2.

Speaker A

As someone who's never played Destiny 1, I don't know which one might be more popular choice.

Speaker A

What are some of the biggest differences between these two options?

Speaker A

Off the top of my head, I would think self Resing Warlocks but no mantling ledges versus Wrath with strand and stasis.

Speaker A

Yeah, that is a good question.

Speaker A

Ronan.

Speaker A

That is definitely the million dollar question, isn't it?

Speaker A

Because are they going to make it a Destiny online?

Speaker A

Are they going to bring it into the Destiny 2 game and make it Destiny forever like they've already mentioned in the blog?

Speaker A

Or is it basically just going to be marketed as Destiny 1 now available on next gen consoles at 60 frames or 120 frames on PC or whatever?

Speaker A

That is a good question.

Speaker A

I don't know what they're going to do there.

Speaker A

From my, the way I read the blog article, my take from that is that they're going to bring Destiny 1 ported straight over.

Speaker A

I don't think they're going to make any changes within the game for the new, the new weapon systems and all the new systems that are in Destiny 2 now.

Speaker A

I think unfortunately it's probably just going to be a straight port and I hope you play Destiny 1 because they mentioned that one of the.

Speaker A

They mentioned that one of the we're maybe thinking about doing this was a new player experience.

Speaker A

I don't think they should mess with that at all because one, if they bring back Red War, that kind of is the new player introduction to Destiny 2.

Speaker A

But if they bring back Destiny 1, that is the ultimate new player experience because you're starting where we started.

Speaker A

You're going to open up the planets as you complete missions.

Speaker A

Man, I wish I could go back to those days when everything was brand new.

Speaker A

I think a lot of us feel that way, you know where we want to go back and remember what it was like to play Destiny 1 for the first time.

Speaker A

Man, I played it on week one.

Speaker A

As soon as it came out it couldn't get here quick enough.

Speaker A

The beta just left me wanting more.

Speaker A

It was such a. Destiny 1 was such a quantum leap in gaming to me.

Speaker A

So from the, from the Call of Duty ages that I, I played before that.

Speaker A

So yeah, I don't.

Speaker A

I. I think self resing Warlocks will be there in Destiny 1 because that was part of the Destiny 1 game.

Speaker A

But I don't think there'll be any mantling of ledges.

Speaker A

Yeah, don't think that's going to happen.

Speaker A

There's not going to be any ST Strand or stasis.

Speaker A

Now keep in mind its Internet has already ported the Wrath of the Machine raid into Destiny 2 engine.

Speaker A

I don't know if it's fully playable yet, but it's already been done.

Speaker A

And this goes back to my point, 12 months.

Speaker A

What is going to change in 12 months?

Speaker A

We're talking about three months.

Speaker A

Things are changing so quickly in gaming right now.

Speaker A

I just don't, I don't know where we're going to be in a year from now with the age of.

Speaker A

I don't care if you love or hate AI, it's here.

Speaker A

We gotta deal with it.

Speaker A

And a lot of people are putting it to good use.

Speaker A

No, we haven't cured cancer yet.

Speaker A

We don't have flying cars yet.

Speaker A

Well, we do, but not like you think.

Speaker A

We don't have flying highways.

Speaker A

We're not the Jetsons.

Speaker A

So I know it's going to take time for those things, but the one thing that AI is so good at doing is right now that has been proven is programming.

Speaker A

Programming language, I think they called it.

Speaker A

Another part, it was matrix math.

Speaker A

Matrix mathematics, which I guess goes into algorithms and programming machines.

Speaker A

It's way over my pay grade, but it's all these multiple things that these agentic AI agents can do is just amazing.

Speaker A

And like I said, I, I honestly, I just, I. I gotta hate to be so negative because I love this game.

Speaker A

I think it's gonna be too little too late.

Speaker A

I think people want a Destiny 3.

Speaker A

They don't.

Speaker A

I don't think they care as much about unvaulting content and I understand you need to make that for.

Speaker A

To have a.

Speaker A

A permanent, you know, a complete game, but I just.

Speaker A

Man, 12 months is a long way.

Speaker A

It's a long way away.

Speaker A

Thanks for your questions.

Speaker A

I'm gonna go get a little bit of feedback here.

Speaker A

Before we.

Speaker A

We've had a lot of talk about this and I wanted to mention what my.

Speaker A

What my buddy Kingsley Mack has been thinking about this.

Speaker A

I just wanted to share his opinion here because he's not on the show anymore and I'm sure he wouldn't mind me talking about this.

Speaker A

He says okay.

Speaker A

They've announced that it's a 12 month project for full production and full production starting next February.

Speaker A

He mentions what's coming from the blog.

Speaker A

He says what are you all excited for?

Speaker A

As for the campaign stuff, I never really cared it was gone.

Speaker A

I think I'm mostly excited for Menagerie and some of the other gone activities like Sundial, if they are able to reach their stretch goal on that part.

Speaker A

Some of our members said raids, RAID layers, that'll be cool to have back.

Speaker A

Don't care a ton about most of it for personal gameplay and selfishly I wish they'd focus on the new stuff in general, but I Also see the value in making things right before pushing forward.

Speaker A

And Kingsley says, yeah, I wonder with all this making stuff right means because I have talked to some people that left and kept using the excuse that they did because they took away the content.

Speaker A

And sure enough, now that it's coming back, those people still don't seem interested in coming back.

Speaker A

So maybe Sony will be looking to see if population is up in June before something else gets greenlit like a possible D3.

Speaker A

I sure hope so.

Speaker A

But it hard, but hard to say how it will go.

Speaker A

Yeah, it's exactly what I'm talking about.

Speaker A

This.

Speaker A

This totally mirrors exactly what I've been saying.

Speaker A

I mean it's going to be great that they make it a complete game, but I really think they need to be thinking about a Destiny 3.

Speaker A

Even.

Speaker A

Even if they just.

Speaker A

I was talking to the Kingsley on, on the raid the other night about this.

Speaker A

I said even if they just brought a story vignette like let's bring back Ikora Rey's origin story.

Speaker A

Let's make it into a dlc.

Speaker A

Let's talk about all the main characters in the game.

Speaker A

Let's go back to the early Iron Lords.

Speaker A

Let's talk about that.

Speaker A

Let's go into that part.

Speaker A

You.

Speaker A

You could.

Speaker A

You could break that down into downloadable content and stretch it out over a six month period of time.

Speaker A

I mean that's what, that's what Arc Raiders is doing right now.

Speaker A

Okay.

Speaker A

You guys can drink.

Speaker A

Every six months they come out with a major update.

Speaker A

Maybe that's something that Destiny can do as well.

Speaker A

But if it's not new content or it's not updated weapons, what are we doing here?

Speaker A

What do we, you know?

Speaker A

Kingsley said.

Speaker A

Yeah, after thinking about it some more as the dust has settled, this seems like it could be easily a two year process before all the old stuff is back.

Speaker A

The Destiny 2 unvaulted stuff going through February 2028 and then the highly hinted at Destiny 1 after that.

Speaker A

I don't know.

Speaker A

I. I don't know.

Speaker A

Kind of seems like a long time down the road before any potential new game stuff like a Destiny 2 or Destiny 3 new content.

Speaker A

I don't know personally that I want a few years working on it, just bringing stuff back.

Speaker A

Oh well, yeah, that's exactly what I've reiterated here.

Speaker A

I un.

Speaker A

I don't.

Speaker A

As much as I want them to make this a complete game, I just think they should be allocating this partner and extra resources to a feature.

Speaker A

Destiny Forever.

Speaker A

Right?

Speaker A

That's what they mentioned in the blog.

Speaker A

A Destiny Forever game.

Speaker A

I think that's, I think that's what they need to focus on here.

Speaker A

All right, before we go, let's catch up.

Speaker A

Speaker A

Later, Guardians.

Speaker A

Okay, just a small quick catch up here.

Speaker A

I wanted to share my week along with everyone.

Speaker A

I hope you guys had a great Halloween.

Speaker A

By the way, I, I put some pictures in the Discord.

Speaker A

We all dressed up for Halloween for my grandson and he was a little under the weather.

Speaker A

He wasn't feeling good.

Speaker A

He was kind of acting out all day.

Speaker A

You know, when kids get sick, they just don't understand why they don't feel good and they just get really cranky.

Speaker A

He wasn't, didn't take a nap, so he was really tired.

Speaker A

We were able to do one loop around our neighborhood.

Speaker A

I sent some video too of some of the decorations.

Speaker A

These people really went all out.

Speaker A

Our neighborhood is like one of the most popular neighborhoods in the area.

Speaker A

And I would say 500 people, at least 500 kids come through this neighborhood block.

Speaker A

We had 400.

Speaker A

No, we had 600 pieces of candy and we were out before 9:00 clock even hit.

Speaker A

It's craziness really was crazy.

Speaker A

TV wise traders, the Voice, those are my two main shows right now.

Speaker A

The Diplomat just came out.

Speaker A

I haven't watched it yet.

Speaker A

The new season, my wife and I are getting ready to see that.

Speaker A

She's getting really.

Speaker A

My daughter became a teacher officially.

Speaker A

So my wife has really been working hard to get her set up because I don't know about.

Speaker A

I'm sure there's teachers out there listening to this right now.

Speaker A

Teaching is not an easy profession, especially if you're brand new to it and there is so much to learn.

Speaker A

You have to understand the mentality of your students that are coming in, you have to figure, you have to be like a little psychologist.

Speaker A

You got to figure out what makes each of these kids tick.

Speaker A

And I do teach in once a year.

Speaker A

It's where I go around classrooms and talk about my job and teach them a little bit about bugs, mainly elementary school age kids.

Speaker A

And I give out stickers or plastic bugs or whatever and they love it.

Speaker A

But I tell you what, after just four hours, which is half of their day, I go home and take a mental nap because I am exhausted.

Speaker A

Little kids ask a lot of questions.

Speaker A

So my daughter, I wish her all the luck.

Speaker A

She's going to have some tough days ahead and my wife is really trying to help her out as best we can.

Speaker A

We're all rallying around her.

Speaker A

My whole family have bought her all kinds of supplies for her classroom.

Speaker A

It's really wonderful to see when we become a teacher, they don't give you any money to put anything in your room.

Speaker A

They don't give you any money for decorations.

Speaker A

They don't do anything like that.

Speaker A

They literally is on the teacher to make the classroom inviting for the student.

Speaker A

And other than the basic furniture and you know, of TV and you know, a desk to sit at, it's.

Speaker A

That's pretty much all they get.

Speaker A

So anyway, moving on.

Speaker A

My wife and I did see one movie this past week using my AMC stubs.

Speaker A

A list membership of course, where I can see up to four movies free every week on any screen or any format.

Speaker A

And there's no online pre ordering fees.

Speaker A

I always say that because everyone likes to make fun of me saying it, but I'll repeat it every every week.

Speaker A

This week you saw the movie called Wicker.

Speaker A

It is a fantasy comedy drama romance film and it's based on the short story by the Wicker Husband by Ursala Willis Jones.

Speaker A

I'm sorry, Ursula.

Speaker A

Ursula Wills Jones.

Speaker A

It stars Olivia Colman as a ridiculed fisherwoman in a small village setting.

Speaker A

She's tired of all the people mocking her and just being ice, you know, being isolated and, and lonely.

Speaker A

So she goes to a local basket maker who's played by Peter Dinklage to weave a custom husband out of wicker.

Speaker A

I know it sounds crazy, but it is really endearing.

Speaker A

It's an endearing film and it has a spirit of like an old time fable.

Speaker A

The Wicker Husband, played by Alexander Skarsgard, turns out to be surprisingly attentive in kind and is fully dedicated to his wife, which he does marry.

Speaker A

The.

Speaker A

The fisherwoman speaking.

Speaker A

What it does though is it sparks jealousy and chaos among the town's repressed residents.

Speaker A

The women are wondering why their husbands aren't so nice and attentive to them.

Speaker A

The ro.

Speaker A

The.

Speaker A

The Wicker husband's romantic gestures and niceties are really a lot of jealous husbands.

Speaker A

Let's leave it at that.

Speaker A

So anyway, it's.

Speaker A

It was a sweet movie.

Speaker A

It really was.

Speaker A

Rotten Tomatoes gave it a certified fresh 94% and the audience agreed 92%.

Speaker A

I mean, all in all I.

Speaker A

It was a fun movie.

Speaker A

It was a light hearted story.

Speaker A

It had some nice lore to it and the ending was really sweet, which seems to be rare, a rare occurrence these days.

Speaker A

Right?

Speaker A

It was a nice change of pace film from all the live action heavy CGI movies we see today.

Speaker A

I give this one three and a half stars.

Speaker A

It was a proper good movie.

Speaker A

If you do see it on your streaming platforms in the future, this would be a good film to watch with someone you love.

Speaker A

Watch it with your partner.

Speaker A

You might get lucky.

Speaker A

Just saying.

Speaker A

Oh, we did play a Root of Nightmares raid this week.

Speaker A

And again, no exotic shotgun.

Speaker A

I think I've run it 19 times now.

Speaker A

Anyway, it was.

Speaker A

It was just the nice.

Speaker A

Just a raid amongst friends.

Speaker A

After a night of trick or treating with my grandson, I was a little exhausted, but we had a great time.

Speaker A

I posted some pictures of our Halloween escapades by the way, in the Discord if you're interested.

Speaker A

But that's basically it.

Speaker A

That's basically my week in a nutshell.

Speaker A

I've been really busy at work.

Speaker A

I've got another podcast I'm working on right now.

Speaker A

My son is going to be on the show live next week and we will mention at the end what the podcast is all about and hopefully it'll be of interest to you.

Speaker A

You might want to listen.

Speaker A

We are going to make a video form of it as well.

Speaker A

We have our own separate YouTube channel.

Speaker A

We're going to start up just like we did with Guardian Down Roundtable with Todd the Gator.

Speaker A

I'll.

Speaker A

We'll talk about that later though.

Speaker A

But we did before we go have a voicemail from one of our longtime community members.

Speaker A

Speaker A

What do you got to lose?

Speaker A

Okay, you can unpause your show now.

Speaker A

Later, Guardians.

Speaker A

Hey, before we go, we got a voicemail from one of our longtime community members here, Mr. Hammer Crasher 32.

Speaker C

Hey Gator, Hammer Crasher 32 here.

Speaker C

You keep on saying Allison Lores is like the the Lore goddess, but I haven't cared about the lore in Destiny 2 since she took over the Lore or at least was like a big forward facing person with the Lore after Final Shape.

Speaker C

I just didn't care.

Speaker C

I really loved the Lore and Destiny up until then.

Speaker C

I mean the cutscene with Ikora like back in the day was cool, but like the story I didn't find all that great.

Speaker C

It did not pull me in the story with the Nine and then the story with Kylo Ren's cousin or whoever he was with the Star wars thing.

Speaker C

It just did not pull me in.

Speaker C

I just don't care.

Speaker C

And Apathy is like the worst thing for a game, you know?

Speaker C

What do y' all think?

Speaker A

Thank you, Hammer Crusher32.

Speaker A

Appreciate your question, man.

Speaker A

Yeah, she was behind or part of the part of the team that was behind the new phase of Destiny 2.

Speaker A

And yes, she was one of the only people I believe that was retained from the Lore department or Lore team after everyone at the Destiny part of Bungie was laid off.

Speaker A

Fired.

Speaker A

I don't know.

Speaker A

I think it's a combination Hammer Crasher of the fact that a lot of interest for Destiny had already waned by then.

Speaker A

And I kind of like the flashback to the 60s and how you know the nine.

Speaker A

I understood more about the nine, how they.

Speaker A

Each of the nine controlled a planet, and I actually enjoyed that.

Speaker A

I was.

Speaker A

I was definitely wanting to know more about the Nine.

Speaker A

But of course, as most of us know, we never got to that next part.

Speaker A

It got end of service.

Speaker A

So I understand where you're coming from.

Speaker A

I do.

Speaker A

I think it was probably just the context that people were just tired of the game and it sounds like you have a different opinion on that.

Speaker A

I just think they had to come up with something for a new direction for Destiny and when it didn't do well.

Speaker A

And that could be from the story, it could be from the lore.

Speaker A

I thought the lore and the story part was the best part of, you know, the raid.

Speaker A

That was the best part of the new direction and the new Nine storyline.

Speaker A

It was.

Speaker A

It was the planetary stuff that I think people were tedious and tired of.

Speaker A

But I.

Speaker A

Brother, I totally get where you're coming from.

Speaker A

All I know is she's one of the only people that stayed behind.

Speaker A

And I think maybe.

Speaker A

I think Sony's intent or what was sold to them was that maybe she can help with some kind of storyline or lore with the marathon game, because they sure as hell needed help.

Speaker A

So I don't know exactly what she.

Speaker A

Her role is right now at the studio.

Speaker A

I don't know, maybe she'll.

Speaker A

She's already storyboarding for the next Destiny project, whatever may be coming in years and years and years.

Speaker A

So.

Speaker A

But I appreciate your.

Speaker A

Your feedback on that, sir.

Speaker A

We appreciate you.

Speaker A

We really do.

Speaker A

So that is our show.

Speaker A

That is the short show for this week.

Speaker A

Probably not so short.

Speaker A

I might have rambled on a little too long with the.

Speaker A

The Bungie Community Update article that we had this week.

Speaker A

But how was your week?

Speaker A

And what do you think about the latest announcement from Bungie concerning the future plans of the studio?

Speaker A

Let me know.

Speaker A

You can contact us on our website.

Speaker A

It's guardian downcast.com you can leave a voicemail just like our friend Hammer Crasher32 did, or you can post your opinion on an email or you can go to our GDR feedback channel of our Discord community.

Speaker A

That is Discord gg, Guardian Down Roundtable.

Speaker A

Contact us Voicemail if you want to listen to the episodes individually on your browser.

Speaker A

It's all right there on our website.

Speaker A

Hey, I want to thank you all for listening this week and me spouting my opinions about the new future of Destiny.

Speaker A

Like I said, I'm really curious what you guys think of all this, but thank you, especially to our super fan.

Speaker A

This is our Patreon community.

Speaker A

Like our dungeon champion patron, Deadpool and Merc, our raid bosses, Frostbite, Jealous Gaming, and amazing Taco King.

Speaker A

So for whatever game you're into these days, be sure to take breaks, hydrate and touch grass.

Speaker A

Hammer Crasher 32, community member for over five years.

Speaker A

Thank you, sir.

Speaker D

The path to victory is long, but there's always hope.

Speaker D

Fight.

Speaker A

Thank you all so very much for listening.

Speaker A

And whether in life or in your game, get your reps in a later Guardian.

Speaker D

Overtime.

Speaker D

Let's do this.

Speaker A

Now, just to mention that statement where they said the communities had to heal and that they were looking forward to the viability of the future of Marathon, there was a lot of hubbub in the community where it came across that Josh was saying, hey, listen.

Speaker A

Like putting a gun to Destiny's head saying, listen, if.

Speaker A

If Marathon doesn't make it, doesn't do well, then we don't know where we're going to be with.

Speaker A

With Destiny.

Speaker A

And Josh did go back on Twitter and clear things up and said, listen, the Destiny content's coming either way, whether Marathon makes it or not.

Speaker A

Destiny's coming back.

Speaker A

So I just want to mention that that has been cleared up.

Speaker A

And it's not an either or situation.

Speaker A

They're not mutually.

Speaker A

They are mutually exclusive.

Speaker A

So Destiny, this Destiny content's coming whether Marathon is successful or not.

Speaker A

Just wanted to mention that, Sam.

Speaker A

Surprised you didn't want to say anything there.

Speaker E

Then.

Speaker A

At the end.

Speaker A

Oh, everyone always gets a little phrasing afterwards.

Speaker E

You killed it.

Speaker E

So all I did was.

Speaker A

Give me the thumbs up.

Speaker A

I got you.

Speaker E

Hey, it's finger guns.

Speaker E

It's not a thumbs up,.

Speaker A

But.

Speaker E

It's overexposed, so it kind of looks like it.

Speaker A

I got you.
